Sixteen ways of seeing the world

The 16 Socionics types

A Socionics type describes how you naturally take in information and make decisions: what comes easily, what takes effort, and what you need from others. It is a lens for reflection, not a scientific diagnosis.

The three-letter code names two leading preferences and whether the type is extraverted or introverted. For example, ILE means Intuitive Logical Extravert. The 16 types form four quadras — groups of four that share values.

Alpha quadra

Shared values: open possibilities, clear ideas, everyday comfort and an easy emotional atmosphere.

Beta quadra

Shared values: shared purpose, clear structure, decisive action and expressive emotion.

Gamma quadra

Shared values: practical results, long-term perspective, personal loyalty and independence.

Delta quadra

Shared values: useful work, everyday wellbeing, personal growth and sincere relationships.

Questions about Socionics types

What are the 16 Socionics types?
They are 16 patterns of taking in information and making decisions: ILE, SEI, ESE, LII, EIE, LSI, SLE, IEI, SEE, ILI, LIE, ESI, LSE, EII, IEE and SLI. Each describes different strengths, needs and ways of relating. They are a framework for reflection, not scientific diagnoses.
What does ILE mean?
ILE stands for Intuitive Logical Extravert. The first two letters describe its leading preferences: exploring possibilities and organising ideas logically. The E means extravert; an I in the final position means introvert.
What is a quadra?
A quadra is a group of four Socionics types that value the same mental functions — ways of processing information. The four quadras are Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta. Shared values do not mean everyone in a quadra behaves alike.
Can my type change?
Within Socionics, a type is generally considered stable, while habits and skills can develop. Your understanding of your type can change, especially after an uncertain test result. Socionics is not a validated science, so treat the label as a useful possibility rather than a permanent verdict.
